Closing this years Festival!

Dear dancers. We are happy and fed by this years Festival. It was such a pleasure to meet and dance again after such a long time of not having the Festival.
Thank you all for your support and patience to make the Festival happen this year! Although it was intensive and challanging with all the rebuilding, renewals and diverse needs we are able to finish this years Festival soon and starting to plan the next year. Yes we are on it - check the dates for next year on the Festival site.

Closing of the registration for the waiting list!

We are happy to announce that the Festival has been booked out for a while and the registration on the waiting list has been opened for a month. The registration is now closed (as a Participant and as a Helper). The waiting list got so long that we do not see any chance to join us this year. We do normally open the registration on April 1st, please be on time to assure your place x the future, we will be happy to see you in the coming editions. Looking forward!

We are happy to announce you that the Festival is full with a wonderful international group of movers. We are opening the waiting list. There has been lot’s of movement so do not hesitate to register, you might still have a chance.
NOTE: Due to recent cancellations, there are 5 HELPER places available. If you are interested to contribute with your energy to the event and get a reduction, please register soon and we will come back to you with our proposals. We are looking forward to our dancing summer.

Fabiana Capriotti, will unfortunately not be able to teach. We are fortunate to welcome Simonetta Alessandri as an intensive teacher instead.
Simonetta will teach Feldenkrais - Improvisation - Contact.
Her final text will be online next week Monday evening.

Contracts for the halls arrived

We are happy that the contracts for the halls are signed and another step towards the Festival is done.

Festival scholarship's news

In 2020, making a decision was a big challenge because many dancers applied from different countries and with strong motivations. Back then we announced, only to the applicants, the 6 selected full scholarships for a Festival that finally couldn’t take place. As we have done with the Festival program, we also postponed their participation.
The 6 selected full scholarships:
1. Abdallah Damra, Palestine
2. Hamza Damra, Palestine
3. Islam Elnebishy, Egypt
4. Mariia Bakalo, Ukraine
5. Samar Al-Zuairy, Egypt
6. Tu Le, Vietnam
Then this year, due to our decision to reduce our work and simplify our tasks, we decided that out of this list of 6, we will only take 2 of them per year. Once they all had the opportunity to participate at the Festival, we will do the next call for applications.

Resuming the organization of the 2023 Festival

Despite the unforeseen circumstances, we as a team have decided to resume the organization for the contactfestival freiburg 2023.
It is and remains uncertain if it can take place and therefore we are planning some changes or cuts to simplify our work and financial changes to be able to manage the risks together. In the next months we will inform you here about the changes. Also in what form we can take over the planning of 2020 and what changes there are. The opening of the registration for 2023 remains as usual on April 1st.

Cancellation of the Festival 2021

Dear friends of contactfestival freiburg,
we hope our words find you well after this long time of ongoing changes, uncertainties and a new war so close to some of us.
We write you after having a team meeting being confronted with new conditions. We had many conversations with the city Freiburg fully hoping to do the Festival this year embracing the recently loosened sanitary restrictions. But we faced the unexpected: the gym halls that we rent from the city Freiburg every year are hosting the Ukrainian refugees for an indeterminate timeframe. Unluckily, there are no other spaces in Freiburg that will be fulfilling the needs of our event.
We won’t be organizing any event in the frame of contactfestival freiburg this year. We decided once again to postpone the planned program of 2020 to 2023. We truly hope to be able to do the Festival next year and celebrate the CI 51st anniversary together with you.

Cancellation of the Festival 2021
December 1st, 2020
Unfortunately, due to the current circumstances, we are not able to hold the festival in 2021. We have decided to postpone the whole program from 2020 to 2022.
2021: And because we consider dancing together as an essential activity, we wish to organize an event in the summer of 2021, despite all circumstances and under whatever conditions. When gatherings become possible, we will find new formats and create time and space to dance together. From last year's experience, no clear picture will form before the end of spring.

Dears,
we hope you are finding your way into the pleasure of movement at home, outdoors or dealing with the indoor distance measures.
Here are some updates as we promised you: After some conversations with the Town Hall this week, it is still not clear if we can rent a gym hall. At the moment they are only available for the schools and not for external associations like us and groups of max 10 people are allowed in the gym. These rules run till June 30th and we don’t know when this will change. If they don’t change, we are unable to organize anything.
We are still full of hope that we can host the preworkshop with Charlie Morrissey as planned on August 3rd - 7th, 2020. The content of the workshop will be redesigned into Material of the Spine, solo, duet and group Improvisation without touch and with physical distance, to suit the current measures. The workshop is addressed to experienced contacters and improvisors.
We are also brainstorming about an alternative event directly after the preworkshop from August 8th - 14th, 2020 that could also fulfill the sanitary necessary measures for 25 participants. It takes the shape of a CI Research Lab for peers. Participation will be only through a personal invitation. We will contact you as soon we know more about changes.
For both events we are in close dialogue with the town hall and will get a next update about new regulations for renting the spaces for our purposes, at the beginning of July. We are planning to come back to you by July 7th with the last news.
It is a big help to know you are sustaining this uncertainty with us till we can pronounce our final decision in July. Thank you.

Festival is cancelled for 2020

Dears,
After holding the hope of making the Festival happen this year we finally let go. Sadly we announce that the contactfestival freiburg 2020 will not take place. By cancelling the planned program, we are following the COVID-19 measures of the German Federal Government.
We would like to acknowledge this emotional moment and the difficulty of making our decision. We started working for this Festival edition in September 2019 and since March we are busy, trying to understand the situation in Germany, Europe and globally. Especially in these times it made us realize the importance of the role of the Festival that has always promoted: proximity, touch, togetherness and physical dialogue for an International dance community. In the process of making our decision we needed to acknowledge that till August we won’t have the necessary conditions for our event to manifest in its Spirit: the certainty of a big size group gathering permission, the allowance of TOUCH, a free travel/open borders situation for you all to reach Freiburg.
We can not imagine the possibility of a virtual contactfestival, so we decided to maintain the entire program from this year -including all intensive, class and guest teachers and the already selected 6 Scholarships, as far as this will be possible- for the contactfestival 2021, happening from August 12th - 18th.

Still we are full of hope that we can host the preworkshop with Charlie Morrissey as planned on August 3rd - 7th, 2020. The content of the workshop will be redesigned into Material of the Spine, solo, duet and group Improvisation without touch and with physical distance, to suit the current measures. The workshop is addressed to experienced contacters and improvisors.

Festival information about the current situation and the Virus

Dears,
we want to thank all of you, who have registered accompanying us in our dream of making the Festival happen this summer.
We are keeping ourselves informed, observing the different measures and the ways each country chooses to deal with this situation. Living in Germany & France, with the heart close to people living far, like Argentina, confronts us to the diversity of political responses, giving us a wider view on the heterogeneity of responses that the global CI community might be going through.
The scenery is uncertain to make a final decision, as the regulations in Germany are still changing. A lot of information is missing and each region takes different positions just like in the EU and in a bigger scale, globally. What becomes more clear is that physical distance seems to be a must for the current and the next future times and that some countrie’s borders might still be closed in August.

We hold our decision to go forward with the event for now. We do keep the hope and slowly start accepting to assume that the Festival might not be able to happen in 2020.
Meanwhile, we start to imagine alternatives to it: a smaller scale of a meeting about Improvisation, only EU participation or even local, or….
With the little information we have now, we are unable to plan anything, yet.
We invite you to sustain this uncertainty with us till we can pronounce our decision. We might need to wait till June for the clarity of the conditions, but we plan to do a next update by the middle of May. We thank you in advance for your patience.
In case you wish to register, do so, but please do not send any money till we contact you again.

Festival registration will start on the 1st of April

Taking into account the recent news about the Corona virus (COVID-19) and the uncertainty that this creates, we have made the decision to go forward with the preparations for the Festival without ignoring the facts, challenges and changes to be made.
As organizers of this big and international event we feel socially responsible and we are keeping ourselves informed to respond with the necessary precautions to create a safe and healthy environment at the Festival.
We do have the hope that the circumstances will allow us to make it happen, but we will take our responsibility to cancel the event if the situation demands it and send you back the payment you did.
By registering for the event you will help us to keep the work flow and show us your interest to meet and dance this summer. None of us can be sure if there is a possibility to meet in August, but if so we want to make it happen.
For now we sustain the project till further notice, adjusting where it is necessary to support global health and life energy especially in relationship with our international event. We will keep you updated.

Collective Documentation and Collaboration

As part of the 20th anniversary, we are happy to share with you:
A NEW COLLABORATION WITH IDOCDE.NET COLLECTIVE DOCUMENTATION
After a collective decision at contactfestival freiburg Teachers Meeting 2016 & 2017 we decided to collaborate with idocde.net to collectively document the Teachers Meetings in the future making the notes available for the international dance community.
Last year, thanks to Defne Erdur & Dilek Üstünalan’s facilitation we gave it a try and we were happy to start this shared practice.

We are happy to announce that for the 20th years Festival Celebration, we selected 2 video-artists:
Konstantin Mihos (GR) his Festival docu film will be also part of his MA thesis at the University of Aegean.
The yielding lens
From the train station to the entrance of the gym hall we‘ve been surveyed by thousands of cameras protecting other’s property. Inside the Festival we are in a communal land where a camera is no longer a mechanical tool of authority nor a stalkers's eye but a limb, my limb. I am not the video man, I am one more Contacter dancing with all of you; I don’t even look through the viewfinder. I trust my camera to balance my axis while dancing with you, supporting, closing and opening space, sustaining or accelerating time. After our dance will be finished, I will look, probably with surprise, at the captured images. And then I will be the video man who will deliver a documentary about the Festival of 2019.
Yevhen Titov (UA) his Festival docu film will be integrated in a New Collection about the last 20 years Video documentations of the Festival, edited also by him.
